I am in the studio with Peter Denenberg listening to the original 16 track masters of Machine Head. It's been 25 years since I've heard them. What an experience. I am intrigued to hear exactly what we all played, the details over the years being lost. I am like a kid, excited at hearing the bare bones of one of the most important periods in my life. It all seems so simple and straightforward compared to what can be done now. On the other hand its simplicity is its strength; the ideas are bold, the playing full of energy and to the point. Someone observes that it sounds fresh. That's because it was. It is. It's honest, a band playing together, not just making a record but actually playing together, each one getting off on the others' performance... \"\nRoger Glover.\n\nProduced by Deep Purple for Edwards Coletta Productions and engineered by Martin Birch.\n1997 remixes by Peter Denenberg with Roger Glover, assisted by Joe Digiorgi at Acme Studios, Mamaroneck, NY. This CD includes the Quad SQ as stereo, i.e. in it's undecoded form, and is of interest as it often varies considerably from the original stereo mix of the album. For example both 'Maybe I'm A Leo' and 'Lazy' contain alternate guitar solos to the original album mix and therefore the more familiar released versions.\n\n'Smoke On The Water' was an edit created to be the fourth single in the US from Machine Head by Warners, coupled with a live version from Made In Japan. It went on to be the band's biggest selling single ever, apart from in the UK who passed on it! 'Lazy' was a drastic edit created by Warners in the US following the lack of succes of 'Never Before' as a single. It also failed to make an impact and was subsequently used as the b-side to their next single in the US and also Japan.\n\nProduced by Deep Purple for Edwards Coletta Productions and engineered by Martin Birch.\nQuad SQ stereo mixed at Abbey Road Studios, March 1972 and remastered at Abbey Road Studios, March 2012 by Peter Mew.\n\nSet: 50999 4 63269 2 8. As a result, a number of albums were selected for mixing in this early \"Surround Sound\" format. \"Machine Head\" was chosen as a suitable candidate for this treatment, and was subsequently issued in June 1972 on Purple Records (catalogue number Q4TPSA 7504) as a SQ Quad LP and by Warner Brothers as a SQ Quad LP (catalogue number BS4-2607), a Q8 Track Cartridge (catalogue number L9B-2607) and a Dolby Q8 Reel (catalogue number WSTQ-2607-QF).\nTo celebrate the 40th anniversary of \"Machine Head\" this audio only DVD features a new 96kHz\/24bit high resolution remaster that 1972 Quad master reworked into a 4.1 Surround Sound version and 3 bonus 5.1 mixes.\n\nProduced by Deep Purple for Edwards Coletta Productions and engineered by Martin Birch.\nOriginal album: 2012 remaster by Jon Astley.\nOriginal Quadraphonic mix by Peter Mew at Abbey Road Studios, August, 1972.\nQuad to 4.1 mix created and mastered by Peter Mew at Abbey Road Studios, March 2012.\nBonus 5.1 mixes by Paul Klingberg.\n\nAll songs written by Blackmore\/Gillan\/Glover\/Lord\/Paice and published by B.
