Records are more than just music. Every sleeve carries memories, every groove tells a fragment of someone’s life. Sometimes loud and raw, sometimes small and intimate.
And that’s exactly why, at Vinyleers, we like to dive into the record shelves of our own people from time to time. Because music is meant to be shared, and some stories simply deserve to be told. So let us take you inside the record collection of Gijs!

This is Gijs, one of our Vinyleers. A heart of gold, an impressive wall of records, and a musical journey that began when he was eight years old. He was given Hitzone 15 as a present. Well meant, full of hits — but for young Gijs it mostly felt like one long skip button.
He zapped endlessly, started to lose hope, and Kabouterdans by Kabouter Plop (the groovy dance mix, no less) nearly made his ears bleed. Until suddenly he stumbled upon Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz and Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit. That’s when something clicked. It felt as if, behind all those flat tracks, a door suddenly opened to something raw and real.
That same energy pushed him further. The punk influences in Gorillaz led him toward Dead Kennedys, while his father’s music and the game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater brought even more discoveries.
And as so often happens: the older he got, the heavier the records became. These days, he spins Darkthrone without batting an eye.
From a one-size-fits-all children’s CD to obscure black metal. Gijs’ journey shows that every record collection starts with a sound that grabs you — and never lets go.
