In the history of Vinyleers, we’ve already crossed the polder a few times with a hefty haul of vinyl, most recently with a massive batch of singles from Belgium. However, our current pièce de résistance (pun intended) is the collection we recently picked up from Groningen.
You may have had to move your records to a new place before, with the trick being to distribute the weight: records at both ends and some clothes stuffed in the middle to prevent the bottom from crashing halfway down the stairs. By box 20, a few existential questions about materialism arise, like: “Why do I own more than two James Last records?” and “Why vinyl? At least stamps are hernia-proof!” And so on.
Your perspective on such a move changes somewhat when you’re staring into a warehouse with 1,000—unevenly distributed, overstuffed—boxes of vinyl. To be precise, we’re talking about roughly 110,000 records! With two fully loaded truck trailers, we transported this legion of records from Groningen to our storage, where we are now carefully sorting through them.
Amidst the records, dozens of organs, Leslie speakers, and other Hammond-related items were also offered. We couldn’t resist taking one (a Hammond organ) with us. So, if you hear organ music deep into the night from Vinyleers headquarters, it means we’re hard at work getting the new black gold online.
The selection is incredibly diverse. We’ve already unearthed some gems from every genre corner. To give you an idea of the variety, it literally ranges from Abba to Zappa. From the Black Jazz label to beautiful Fleetwood Mac and Captain Beefheart copies, obscure jazz records like Gabor Szabo’s Dreams, the Dutch Latin Jazz holy grail Ritual by Nico Gomez, to The Smiths, Anthrax, house classics, and Henk Wijngaard. An eclectic goldmine.
