Some albums were released in multiple versions (pressings). There is the first pressing, which can be very valuable to collectors. When that stock runs out, a new pressing is made, called a repress or re-issue. These are often slightly different, such as a different sleeve or heavier vinyl.
Sometimes older albums are remastered, improving the sound quality. A new pressing is made for this as well. Differences in artwork or small production errors can also make a specific version more attractive.
What makes the difference in price?
For records that are not new, the market value is determined by scarcity and the condition of both the record and the sleeve. Pricing is based on supply and demand, and whether a version is limited or numbered.
Which variant should I choose?
If it’s mainly about the music, a repress is a good choice. An original or numbered edition has a different kind of appeal.
Including tax.

Lisner Auditorium, George Washington University, Washington, DC, with the Fedco Remote, 8/8/77 (1-2 to 1-4, 1-12 to 2-2, 2-10, 2-13, 2-14), 8/9/77 (2-5 to 2-7, 2-12, 2-15), 8/10/77 (2-4, 2-9)
[Note: Manchester City Hall, Manchester, England (7/29/77) was also recorded on 24-track tape, but nothing was ever used from this date.
Disc 1 (all) & disc 2 (2-1 to 2-5) from the original release of Waiting For Columbus, Warner Bros. #2BS-3140 (2/10/78)
Refurbished at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA; Westlake Audio, Los Angeles, CA (8/19/77-9/10/77). Mixed at Westlake Audio, Los Angeles, CA (9/12/77-10/16/77)
[Note: For aesthetic reasons, the playing order of Sides 2 (1-9 to 1-12) & 3 (1-6 to 1-8) has been switched so that the band's main set (contained on Disc 1) now concludes with the long ovation that leads into the encore.
Disc 2 (2-6 to 2-10)
Performances that were refurbished & mixed for the original album Waiting For Columbus, but not used.
Disc 2 (2-11, 2-12)
Selections that were apparently never considered for inclusion on either the original album or Hoy-Hoy! They are newly mixed from the original multitrack tapes and do not contain any overdubs.
Disc 2 (2-13 to 2-15)
First issued on the album Hoy-Hoy!, Warner Bros. #2BSK-3538 (7/29/81)
Refurbished & mixed at George Massenburg Studios (The Complex), West Los Angeles, CA (12/80-3/81)
[Note: This release now contains all the songs that were performed at the series of shows recorded for this album.
