"In the preparation of this compact disc, every effort has been made to make these historic recordings sound as they did when Brian, Carl, Mile, Dennis, Al and Bruce first made them. Numerous tapes were auditioned in order to find the best sounding master. No remixing was attempted, as it was felt that this would not be faithful to the original productions. The original mono and stereo tapes were transferred using a specially modified ampex tape machine and custom-made analog-to-digital converters.
The disc has been mastered using the Pacific Microsonics HDCD system which encodes 24 bits onto a conventional 16 bit CD. The bonus tracks have been selected from a variety of sources and were mixed directly from the original three and four track masters."
