General notes about this release (please note: our version may differ a little. see the comments above):
"At Reger's lifetime there was ... [apart from wax matrixes another recording procedure which was restricted to keyboard instruments: organ play, for example, could be recorded on paper rolls [.... Depending on pitch, length and volume of a tone, holes where punched into these ... [rolls. As soon as ... [the rolls were fitted to an organ equipped accordingly, the organ re-performes the 'recording' as if played by invisible hands in exactly the way ... the interpreter ... had performed the work in his days." (from the liner notes).
Organ play performed by Reger in May 28, 1913, on the 'Welte-Philharmonie' recording organ at the music studios of M. Welte & Soehne in Freiburg i. Br. (Germany). Re-performance recorded for the present release in April 19, 1961, from a historic 'Welte-Philharmonie' player organ in Wipperfürth/Germany. (Note: the date of Reger's original performance is not indicated on the release!)
