Ringo Starr - Ringo's Rotogravure (LP, Album, Gat)

Ringo Starr's sixth album release, and first release for Polydor records.
Recording started in April 1976 at the Sunset Sound Studios in L.A. where, as well as the tracks below, three unreleased tracks are recorded, which are :
"Where Are You Going",
"All Right", and
"It's Hard To Be Lovers".
On June 12th John joined Ringo in the Cherokee Studios, Hollywood in what was he last official studio recording session until 4th August 1980 !
One week later on the 19th, Paul and Linda drop in to the same studios to add their piece on "Pure Gold".
Due to other engagements George fails to attend, and therefore on this album just three Beatles can be heard.
The record label is the standard red Polydor label, and in the run-out groove one can see a different Polydor catalogue number that has been etched out, which is 2310 473.
The sleeve also says, This sound recording was made by Wibble Records Ltd.

The cover photography was by David Alexander, with the back cover photograph of the Apple offices, Saville Row door by Tommy Hanley. In fact, original copies of the album included a magnifying glass to examine the graffiti on the door ! ... and in fact, looking through mine amongst many names and fine quips, I can see on the left hand door pillar, half-way down, it says,
"GIVE JOHN A GREEN CARD OK
The remaining sleeve photography in the inner gatefold was by Mark Hanauer and David Alexander.

Finally, what is "Rotogravure" ?
Rotogravure process is an intaglio method of printing, meaning that the pictures, designs and words are engraved into the printing plate or printing cylinder. Acid is used to cut the images into the plate. Once the copy is photographed, positives are then made from the negatives. The images are transferred to the printing surface by use of carbon tissue covered with light-sensitive gelatin. The gelatin hardens based on the amount of light that passes through the positives. The plate or cylinder is then bathed in acid, which eats through the gelatin squares. On the printing press, the deepest cells retain the most ink and the darkest tones.
